A Prelude To The Spectacle
4/17/08

Before I take off for the three Widespread Panic shows in Orange Beach, Alabama, I thought I'd send a dispatch. Tonight's theme includes all Georgia rock and rollers. I'd like everyone to check out famed photographer Ross Halfin's photographs (old and new) as well as his diary of the Black Crowes shows from last week. The Crowes are back in the States preparing for a 90 city tour. More on the Crowes later...
I spoke with Bloodkin's Danny Hutchens this evening to nail down some dates. Positive activity afoot in the Bloodkin camp. They have a new David Barbe studio record coming out this fall, and Swampland/Mystery And Manners will soon highlight these gritty rock and rollers. More on Bloodkin later...
Just got off the phone with Todd Nance. He said I made a good choice in attending this weekend. Should be a classic gathering, first class fun and a fine time to write the next installment of Swampland/Mystery And Manners profiles on the seminal Athens band, Widespread Panic. Tomorrow night marks the 10 year anniversary of Panic playing to 100,000 people in Athens, which set a world record for the largest CD release party.
I may have time to get some photos and a dispatch up late tomorrow night...might depend on circumstances and logistics...but something will be up by the late hours of Friday night/Saturday morning. So, check back tomorrow. On the road again...
