October Skies

                                          "All that we see
Is but a dream within a dream."
                                                 -Edgar Allan Poe

…A few lines under bright southern October skies…It’s a blustery day in Atlanta. I’ve taken a dew days off from dispatching to see which way the wind blows. I watched Georgia beat Tennessee and Texas upset Oklahoma yesterday. Last week I wrote a few reviews to draw everyone’s attention to some essential new releases. Chuck Leavell and Widespread Panic’s Jimmy Herring interviews are on the way…also more news of Jim Dickinson, Stanley Booth, Paul Hemphill and many others next week.

October is always one of those most interesting months of the year. In 30 days a new administration will be in office. The economic flu threatens us all. Football reaches a fevered pitch and all sorts of musical shows arise in the fall. A season of weather change…a prelude to the holidays and the end of another year. A blue moon is comin.' In this season of the witch…we’ve got a few tricks up our sleeve. These are ominous times. As Bob Dylan sang: “Either brace yourself for elimination or your heart must have the courage for the changing of the guard…”

Until tomorrow…

James Calemine
