Let me just cut to the chase. I am a huge fan pf Mississippi singer songwriter Paul
Thorn. I have seen him live onstage half a dozen times, both acoustic solo and with his marvelous band. I even had the pleasure of singing "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" with him and the boys at the High Lonesome Saloon down in Rome, Georgia.
Paul has a brilliant new album coming out next week called Long Way from Tupelo, and we will be featuring a review of the record here in GRITZ.
If you'd like to learn more about Paul Thorn, we have just posted my interview with Tupelo's second biggest star (Elvis is from there too) from 2005. Read the interview here.
One of the many cool thangs about Thorn is that he was once a middle weight pro boxer, and went six out of ten rounds in the ring against the legendary Roberto Duran.
The fight was really good considering everyone had written Paul off as going down in round one. Who knows what may have happened if the ref had not stopped the fight after round six because of blood getting into Paul's eyes.
Of course, we are probably lucky he didn't win. He may have continued down the boxing road, and we would have not gotten all of these great albums and tours. Check out a recent video of Paul and the band below, and be sure to pick up Long Way from Tupelo at your favorite record store or online next week.
Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.

Thank you Thank you! I loved the interview! And I had never seen Paul's boxing match. It was hard for me to watch seeing him bleeding, but he really held his own! I love Paul's art work, don't you?
