My old hometown of Spartanburg, SC is turning into the new Athens, with an array of great new bands all over town. In the coming weeks we will look into several of them, including Southern rockers Silver Travis, The Southern Boys (actually from Tennessee, but
featuring Spartan Justin McCorkle, son of George) and Jackson Crossing. These three bands received the biggest responses during the all day Jam for George concert last November. The following news item comes from my buddy Tom Clarke of Hittin' The Note magazine.
Jackson Crossing began recording their debut album in early March. The album is being produced by the legendary Paul Hornsby at his Muscadine Recording Studio in Macon, Georgia. Jackson Crossing evolved from the band SevenMoore (which included drummer Paul T. Riddle and reeds man Jerry Eubanks of the original Marshall Tucker Band). Once again led by the immensely talented singer/songwriter/guitarist Rick Willis, Jackson Crossing is rounded out by bass player Tim Clement (also from SevenMoore), guitarist Rusty Barcley, keys man Jimmy "Grub" Thornburg, drummer Scott Stinson, and singer Shannon Scott. Given their pedigree, fans of the MTB, and those who simply love original, incredibly soulful southern rock and blues-based music will be thrilled by Jackson Crossing's new songs. Stay tuned; the album will be released in just a few short months. Visit Jackson Crossing at www.jacksonxing.com.
Look for feature articles on Jackson Crossing and all of these great Upstate South Carolina bands, coming soon.
Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.

I'd like to first of all thank Michael "Buffalo" Smith for his kind comments about my band Jackson Crossing. The band did begin as an offshoot of Sevenmoore, but has evolved into a full fledged band. We are excited about our debut album and hope to have it out some time this summer. We have been blessed to be working with Paul Hornsby in Macon,Ga. at his Muscadine Recording Studio and with Rusty Milner and Tim Lawter at their Mill Street Studio in Inman, S.C. Thanks again and we look forward to seeing everyone at a Jackson Crossing show real soon.

Hey Guy's remember Trey Harris and the Lounge Hounds? They were all from the Spartanburg area and were kick-ass. You can still pull up there old web-site on google (enter trey harris and the lounge hounds). Trey's in Nashville now but there's talk of a reunion gig!
