The South's premier country-bluegrass-Americana get together Merlefest, kicked off last night in North Carolina. Swampland's own Derek Halsey is front and center and reports that the weather so far is amazing, and there seem to be even more folks in attendence than last year. There have been rumors of campfire jams fueled by blackberry moonshine, but I cannot vouch for their validity.
Halsey will be writing a complete report following the event, but for those of you who couldn't make the trip but wish you could hear the music, here's a real treat. Merlefest Radio offers live streaming audio all during the festival. Even as I type, Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys have just invited Jim Lauderdale onstage and are picking "I Feel Like Singing Today."
A complete schedule can be found at merlefest.org, so you can join in online and enjoy the music.
