Rick Godfrey Returning to Upstate South Carolina

Former Garfeel Ruff guitarist Rick Godfrey returns to Upstate South Carolina this weekend to perform at a benefit for The South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind in Spartanburg.

Although he and his brother Ronnie were both born blind, Rick attended high school as the only blind student in Greenville during the seventies. In a video posted today at WYFF TV, Rick talks about why he chose to attend public school rather than the Deaf & Blind School.

Rick will be jamming in Anderson, SC at Wendell's Dipping Branch on May 3rd at 5:30 PM. Rick wll be part of an all-star jam that includes Jay Johnson (Blackfoot/Spouthern Rock Allstars/Rossington Band), Ace Allen (Marshall Tucker Band), and Dennis Solesbee (Lightnin West Band).

Rick will also be appearing as a part of Buffalo's Acoustic South, a project consisting of a changing lineup of Southern rock stars, during The American Cancer Society Relay for Life, on May 16th . The event will take place at Greer High School football statdium in Greer, SC.  Other bands will appear during the evening, with  the all-star band playing  at 10 PM.

The  ensemble will feature  Rick doing Garfeel Ruff songs,  along with Donnie Winters of The Winters Brothers Band, Tony Heatherly formerly of The Marshall Tucker Band and The Toy Caldwell Band, yours truly, and singer/songwriter Mark McAfee.

Godfrey is one helluva guitarist and singer. If you haven't already heard him, check him out. If you already know Rick, I'll see you at the shows.

Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.
