Athens Rocks Tonight (Georgia, Not Greece)

Well, here I am back in Athens, Georgia at The Foundry Inn and Spa, a really cool and historical hotel that also features one of the nicest listening rooms I have seen lately, The Melting Point. Jill and I made the trip down from Greenville his morning under sunny skies, all psyched up about tonight’s show featuring The Tommy Talton Band and opener Mojo Saint.

We arrived at the Foundry and checked in to find this really huge room with a lot of antique ambience. Very cool.

The Melting Point is just a few yards from our room, and once we checked in, I took a stroll down to the club to see the guys. The first person I saw was Tommy’s wife, Patti, who said Tommy was running around somewhere, getting ready for sound check. I spotted Jack Hall, brother of Jimmy and Donna, all of Wet Willie fame, who is playing bass in Mojo Saint. We caught up for a while and soon Tommy came in, sporting his florescent FAME Studios t-shirt.

The guys introduced me to Jim Hawkins, the man who actully built the first mixing  console fot Capricorn Records. Jim has worked with everyone from The Allman Brothers Band and Gov’t Mule to Bloodkin and Robert Randolph. He is building a new studio in Athens as we speak. A great guy.

Patti had recommended the angus burger, so we went ahead and had one while talking to Jim, Jack and Patti Talton.Mmmm..tasty burger.

We stepped inside the listening room and watched Tommy’s band rehearse, The boys were sounding great. The show tonight should be quite amazing. Jack told me Mojo Saint’s guitarist is awesome. I look forward to the show, Meanwhile, I think I will just chill out until showtime. It’s going to be a long night. I’ll let ya’ll know tomorrow about the show.

Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.
