MACON, GA - John C. "Scooter" Herring, 67, of Macon, died Saturday, November 10, 2007. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 2:00PM at Harvest Cathedral, 2254 Rocky Creek Road, with Larry Howard officiating.
The family may be contacted at the residence of Kellye Brown, 147 Southfork Drive and will greet friends from 1:00pm until 2:00PM on Wednesday at Harvest Cathedral.
Mr. Herring had a long career in the music entertainment industry. He worked for and toured with both The Allman Brothers Band and The Gregg Allman Band in various capacities. He was a tour manager for Sea Level, the band fronted by former Allman Brothers Band member and current Rolling Stones member Chuck Leavell. He was also associated with the Macon based band Grinderswitch among others and leased tour coaches to numerous entertainers and bands.
Mr. Herring was predeceased by his parents, John Oliver Herring, Jr. and Christine Clark Herring, and by his son, Russell Wade Herring. Mr. Herring is survived by his daughters, Kellye Ivey Brown (Scott) of Macon and Stacye Atchley Bentson (Arthur Treat) of Hazlehurst, GA; grandchildren, Sean D. Bentson, Stephani D. Bentson, Courtney Logue, Katie Southerland, Valerie Lawrence, and Emily, Grace and Sydney Brown; great-grandchildren, Kalayla Logue and Savannah Lawrence; sisters, Elaine Herring Greggo of Deland, FL and Angel Herring Walther of Casselberry, FL. Hart's Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
Buffalo and Scooter earlier this year at the Benefit for a Brother for Sid Yoakim in Macon. Rest in Peace brother Scooter. We'll miss you.
