I am really intrigued with John Rich.
I just finished watching the finale of his CMT reality show Gone Country, and while I disagree with his choice of winner (Julio Iglasias, Jr., whereas I was just sure Bobby Brown was going to win) I am blown away by John’s no holds barred honesty, and his obvious love of country music.
Born in Amarillo in the Texas pan handle back when I was in the eleventh grade (kind of makes a guy feel old), Rich was a member of young country group Lonestar from 1992 to 1998. After being fired from Lonestar (John’s own words on his website), he embarked on a solo career, eventually hooking up with Big Kenny to form Big & Rich, a group that owes as much to Southern Rock as they do to classic country. They rock it.
He also started up the Nashville Music Mafia, which includes Cowboy Troy and superstar country diva Gretchen Wilson. Very cool.
John is “Mr. Nashville” these days, having produced and written songs for multiple hot country artists. He is one of the most respected guys in Music City, and a highly sought after writer and producer. It was announced recently that he will release a solo project on Warner Bros. Records in 2008.
I am really looking forward to hearing John's solo album, This guy rocks the country. It's going to be a good one.
Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.
