A Few Notes on Widespread Panic Night Two in Orange Beach

Notes On Widespread Panic Show In Orange Beach

I just returned from the Gulf Coast where I saw Widespread Panic play The Wharf in Orange Beach. There’s no doubt Panic remains one of the strongest touring bands in the world. Road tested. After tonight’s show (Sunday), Panic will rest until they go back out on the road with The Allman Brothers in the summer.

Yesterday before the show, I interviewed Widespread Panic’s archivist Horace Moore. Horace goes way back with the band, and he’s now in charge of the band’s entire live music  catalogue. Panic’s new archive release system will prove exciting for any fan. In this interview, Horace talks about his history with the band, the group’s archive, theories and practices on these recordings as well as an estimated time for the next release. I look forward to having this interview up by the end of the week. Horace has an interesting story to tell…

Panic never fails to prove their music works magic on many folks…about 12,000 last night. Dave Schools and I agreed it was time we did an interview...look out for that before the summer tour.  Todd and I spoke about his new Athens band...The Romper Stompers. I met the legendary Oade Brothers. Horace told me a story about how he and Jimmy went fishing and caught this huge fish off of a local pier after last night's performance. Jimmy’s love for fishing almost equals his love for playing guitar. What a player...

I talked with Luther Dickinson for a bit. The North Mississippi Allstars opened for Panic last night. Luther and I talked about Dust To Digital, his side projects and upcoming shows before he goes back out on the road with The Black Crowes. He got up and jammed with Panic for a couple of songs...

It’s now time to transcribe Horace Moore’s first interview regarding Panic’s indelible archive.  Rest easy,

James Calemine
