We’ve written this week about the tough blow Baylor suffered when start quarterback Robert Griffin was lost for the season.
Based on his stellar freshman season, the Bears’ goal of reaching their first bowl game since 1994 seemed very realistic. Now without Griffin, QB uncertainty has Baylor in a swirl.
Art Briles’ club wants to go with backup Blake Szymanski at QB, but he suffered a bruised right shoulder filling in last week. If he can't go against Kent State, Baylor will have to rely on freshman Nick Florence.
In his second season in Waco, Briles has Baylor going in the right direction. However, their goal of breaking the 15-year postseason drought, which matches Duke for the longest for a team playing in a Football Bowl Subdivision conference, will be very tough now without Griffin.
The Bears will need to get settled at signal caller against Kent State before running the gauntlet of eight straight Big 12 opponents.
