(Epic Legacy)
Released just after his death, Pride and Joy was a must-have VHS compilation of Stevie’s music videos shot between 1983 and 1989, including “Cold Shot,” “Lovestruck Baby,” “Superstition” and others. Of course there was my favorite SRV video, “Couldn’t Stand The Weather”- I always loved that one. Running just 30 minutes, the compilation video was like the Holy Grail for the legions of die hard Texas blues fans who had just shockingly lost their hero.
WIth the new DVD release, the package has been kicked up several notches, featuring excellent additional footage. Now included are Stevie’s MTV Unplugged solo performances of “Pride and Joy,” “ Rude Mood” and “Testify.” There’s the SRV memorial video “Little Wing” and two TV commercials for SRV albums. There are also two Vaughan Brothers videos, “Tick Tock” and “Good Texan.”
With all the added video, the collection now clocks in at over 70 minutes of historic footage. A simply fantastic collection.
