(Little Train)
On their new release, Texas country rockers The Dust Devils com out of the chute with a pure Austin-style country title track, with Barbara Malteze giving 110 percent as she always does. If the rocker “Looking for Pearl” was my favorite cut on the first album, “Hurry Sundown” captures that title this time around. I have compared Barbara’s voice to Dale Krantz during the Rossington Collins reign, and while I still hold onto that comparison, I get a real Ann Wilson/Heart feel here as well.
Kevin Higgins sings “Amazing Sense of Calm,” a moody, laid back song with some truly inspired lyrics, and “Home” is a beautiful duet between Barbara and Kevin. “Robert Rolled His Pickup Truck Again” begins with an acoustic Led Zeppelin riff before turning into an honest to God hoe down.
Change in the Weather is a great album, filled with straight up rock and roll and low down country, all melded together seamlessly by an ultra talented Texas road band.
