The Point

One of Athens, Georgia’s rockingest ensembles,Tishamingo is back with their third release, The Point, produced by John Kerzweg (Creed, Jewel, Puddle of Mudd).

Tishamingo is an outstanding example of what I call the “new” Southern rock, with excellent vocals and guitar from Cameron Williams, Jess Franklin on guitar and piano, Richard Proctor on drums and huck Thomas on bass. They have the passion of Drive By Truckers and the classic charm of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The Point kicks off with “Get On Back,” a full tilt rocker, and gets a little funky on “Are We Rollin.’” Sometimes the boys are very reminiscent of The Black Crowes, as in “Mitchell” and at times, their old school Southern rock upbringing shows, as with “Walkin’ Shoes” and “Devil’s Love Song.” One of the true outstanding tracks on the album is the beautiful Skynyrd-esque “Tennessee.”

Eleven tracks, all good, make The Point an album that bears repeat listenings. Good stuff.
