Waylon Jennings was one of my all time favorite country singers, along with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and David Allan Coe. I remember when Waylon died, my heart just sank. What an entertainer he was. If there was ever any doubt, all you have to do is listen to the two CD set or watch the DVD in this package, and you will never doubt again.
This was Waylon’s final concert, recorded at the Ryman Auditorium in January of 2000, with his wife Jessi Colter and several notable friends joining him onstage. He was in declining health and unable to stand, but in typical Jennings style he said, "I can still kick your ass, you just have to bring it up here to me!"
Waylon performs many of his best loved hits, such as “Amanda,” “Good Hearted Woman,” and “I’ve Always Been Crazy,” done as duet with Travis Tritt. Montgomery Gentry join Waylon on “I’m a Ramblin’ Man,” and John Anderson sings on “Waymore’s Blues.”
Jessi performs her number one hit “I’m Not Lisa,” and duets with her husband on “Storms Never Last” and “Suspicious Minds.”
Waylon does excellent covers of Dobie Gray’s “Drift Away,” Hoyt Axton’s “Never Been to Spain,” and “The Weight,” originally recorded by The Band. Waylon closes the show with his version of his friend Toy Caldwell’s Marshall Tucker Band hit, “Can’t You See.”
The hour and a half concert is enhanced even further by a 30 minute video documentary featuring never before seen rehearsal footage and friends remembering Waylon.
It’s a package any country music fan would be proud to own. Thank’s for the music, Waylon. We miss you hoss.
