Lotsa folks too young to have been hangin' in various SE bars in the day, but the late Donnie McCormick was a drummers-drummer, and the absolute most mercurial and riveting live performer that I have know... to be so unknown. Donnie and Eric Quincy Tate got their start at the same time as the Allman Brothers, but did not get the breaks. That did not stop them from being the great force in Southern Rock-Blues-Jazz-Country-Jam bandery that they became, and you will find few drummers on this list of yours that would not be surprised that Donnie is not at the top of it.

Dennis Yost of Dennis Yost and The Classics IV, was the first drummer to stand up in front of the band in the sixties. He stood up, sang lead, MCd, and drank a beer at the same time. Standing and playing drums was his trademark.I can't tell you how many people have emailed me about the early years before the hit Spooky, when they pulled him off drums and replaced him with Kim Venable. I know Dennis loved playing drums as much as he loved singing. I wonder what would have happened if they would have left Dennis stay on drums in front of the band? I know that The Classics IV was the forerunner of "Southern Rock" and the beginning of "Soft Rock".
