On the heels of my own Top Twenty Five Southern Rock albums, we asked a few of our friends to share their own lists of Favorite Southern Rock albums, and we got a few real surprises,  but one fact remains, The Allman Brothers Band Fillmore East album has a heck of a lot of fans besides just your's truly. -Buffalo

    “My favorite album of all time. I had never heard anything like it.”

    “A real classic. “Whipping Post” has always been a favorite of mine.”
3. The Southern Music and Harmony Companion  Black Crowes
    “The Crowes are one of my primary influences. They rock.”

1. Gregg Allman- Laid Back “Gregg's blues-drenched voice goes beyond race or color. This album and "Playin' Up a Storm" could have been cut  from the same session. Both are brilliant. I can't think of another white singer with the gut-wrenching soul of Gregg Allman.”

2.Marshall Tucker Band - Carolina Dreams “I love the laid back western feel of this album, conjuring up images of cowboys and campfires. Totally original!”

3.Blackfoot- Marauder “This album captured what Blackfoot was all about. A mixture of blues and heavy-hitters. We were on tour with them at the time, and got to hear these songs live every night! Unforgettable.”

4.Georgia Satellites  “Who can forget this rocking band. They brought the  barroom to the big stage with their cross between the Stones and "Chuck  Berry with a twang" sound.”

5.Lynyrd Skynyrd - Street Survivors “This was their pivotal album for me. They were coming into their own here, with great, memorable songs, propelling them to superstar status. Unfortunately, it was the end of  the first chapter of their ongoing story.”

6.Charlie Daniels Band- High Lonesome “This was actually my introduction to the CDB, and I loved it. It had a more raw production, and was another album that invoked western imagery. Taz has always been one of my all-time favorite keyboardists and really shines here. Of course, Charlie just gets better with age!”

7. Kentucky Headhunters- Electric Barnyard “These guys somehow got lost in the southern-rock shuffle and were considered a country outfit. Don't be fooled! These guys rock, both live and in the studio, and have developed a sound and look all their own. They are as southern as any band on here, maybe even more so! Go see them now!”

8. 38 Special- Wild Eyed Southern Boys “This was their breakthrough album. I fondly remember being in Jacksonville the day this came out, hearing it on the radio in the car. I drove straight to the store and bought it. They still had the edge of their previous albums, but just a little more accessible.”

9.Molly Hatchet- Devils Canyon “Although the first two Molly Hatchet albums are huge favorites of mine, this album remains my favorite album of new material from the "new" era. The songs have good hooks, the overall production by Kalle Trapp was more raw, and was analog as opposed to digital, capturing the true Hatchet sound, and bridging the gap from old to new perfectly,before the band took a more metal approach.”


10.Outlaws - Soldiers of Fortune “Once again, their earlier works were big-time favorites, but this was the album I was waiting for. The pairing of Hughie and Henry Paul was always a nice compliment. "One Last Ride" is probably my all-time favorite Outlaws song, featuring one of Hughie's most brilliant leads,Short and to the point, but nontheless brilliant. Ironically, I dug this out about a week before Hughie passed,
and now "One Last Ride" seemsa very befitting requiem for such a great musician.”
