The Top Ten Hottest Cars of The Southern Rock Era

The Southern Rock Era, 1969 - 1979 produced not only some of our greatest music, but also some of our greatest automobiles. Many of us were in high school during these years, and recall with great joy the hot rods in the school parking lot. Cars like the Malibu, the Roadrunner and the Duster. Here are our choices  for the Top Ten rides of the Southern Rock Era.

1971 Camero: If you drove one of these, you were a boxmaster.  No doubt.

1973 Plymouth Roadrunner. Cruising downtown with the windows down and blasting the debut Skynyrd album on the 8-Track.

1971 VW Beetle: A sixties hold over for the hippies and cute girls who worked in the school library.

1971 Dodge Charger Super Bee: One badass ride. Slap some Road Huggers on that bad boy and you were in business.

1972 Ford Mustang Mach I; Always a classic.

1971 Plymouth Duster; Every one of us knew somebody that drove a Duster, although I don't recall the green ones. I remember a lot of yellow Dusters.

1972 Pontiac GTO; Had a buddy who drove one. He didn't allow anyone to smoke (anything) in his machine. I don't blame him.

1973 Chevy Malibu; My buddy Larry had a tricked out, bright orange Malibu with a black vinyl top, Road Huggers, mag wheels, Thrush mufflers and a box of 8-Tracks in the back seat. We lived in that car. We called it "The Screamin' Demon."

1970 Oldsmobile 4-4-2; Power to spare, baby.

1969 Pontiac Firebird; Yep. Girls love convertables.
