Today marks the birthday of southern writer James Lee Burke (b. 1936). The Texas writer has penned over 20 books. His Dave Robicheaux detective novels gained much attention. His other fine books include Heaven's Prisoners, In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead, Mississippi Delta, Dixie City Jam, Jesus Out To Sea, Two For Texas, The Lost Get Back Boogie (a book that was rejected 111 times) and Black Cherry Blues. Burke will appear at Books Along the Teche in New Iberia, Louisiana, on December 16 for a signing.
It is also the birthday of John Berendt, the author of a book based in Savannah, Georgia, titled Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil.
Things have been mighty busy around these parts...moving...work...travel...impending holidays...but after a transitional week my dispatches will now re-appear with regularity. Thursday I will interview Oscar-nominated filmmaker John Sayles regarding his new movie filmed in Alabama called Honeydripper.
Also, on Thursday evening, I will interview/profile GRAMMY-nominated Lance Ledbetter--president of Atlanta's own Dust To Digital. More on those two gentlemen in a few days. Next week I'll visit Athens, Georgia, musician-producer David Barbe. Barbe's Chase Park Studios served as the location where bands such as R.E.M., The Drive By Truckers and Bloodkin have recorded. These should all prove definitive and essential profiles on each respective artist.
Until I come up for air...I must disappear again into the deep...
