I just got the word that Shout! Factory Records and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum are planning to produce a multi-part original series of specials on the history of country music for television and DVD.
The partners will seek worldwide broadcast distribution with both retaining exclusive worldwide home video and digital rights to this multi-part series, expected to take two years to complete.
Documentarians David Leaf and Morgan Neville will be producing. Under their supervision, a team of filmmakers will tackle a diverse series of themes including - The Roots of Country and Bluegrass, The Honky Tonk Tradition, Outlaw Country, The Nashville Sound, The Politics of Country, Country Songs and Songwriters, California Country, and No Depression, which is a detailed look at the alternative country music movement.
Given the track record I have personally seen from Shout! Factory, I am pretty stoked about the whole project. We'll be watching.
Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.

P.S. Speaking of real country music, check out my new review of Heybale.

I sure hope they give credit to Skynyrd and the other great Southern Rockers. Their influence is undeniable, and today's country would not exist without them.
