I'd like to take this time to put up an obituary Frank Gutch wrote. Frank contributes periodically to Swampland, and along with this obit, here's the link to an article he wrote about Space Opera.

"Phil White, bass guitarist with Fort Worth's legendary Space Opera, passed on the morning of September 6, 2008. He had suffered from complications of congestive heart failure for the past few years, but lived his life to the end, guitar not far from his grasp. While he will be remembered most for his work with Space Opera, Phil made himself a presence throughout the music scenes wherever he went, always ready to plug in his guitar for a good (or just musical) cause. For well over three decades, he played with a number of Texas music legends including Bill Ham, Edd Lively, John Nitzinger and Stephen Bruton, among an encyclopedia of others. No doubt music will be played in his memory throughout the State of Texas for some time to come."
