Well, I got up early today, and even though my back was still ailing me and it was raining outside, I chose to seize the day. I made a few calls, checked e-mail, packed up the Honda, and turned the ignition key. The sound coming from under my hood was not a good one. Long story short, an old friend named Thomas who used to live in Spartanburg is now in Nashville, and he is a killer mechanic. I made a call, he came out and installed a new used starter. My other one was deader than a door nail.

Soon, I was on my way. I went to the station to gas up, and the lady working there was really nice. All I could think was "I sure wish the girl at the station back home was this together." (See my previous blog). I asked her if there was indeed a Cracker Barrell in Portland, and she said "Might as well be. There's one just a few miles down the road in Franklin."

I followed her directions and much to my surprise I looked over to see a "Welcome to Kentucky" sign. Guess I never thought about how close Nashville is to Kenticky, much less Portand.

I knew right away I liked the Bluegrass State. First thing I saw was a bar called Hot Mama's Roadhouse, and just a bit further down there was an actual drive-in movie theater. Do you know how long it's been since I have seen a drive-in? Said they were showing the Wolverine movie, but I thought that wasn't out yet. Maybe thay got ahold of that bootleg version on the internet.

As I looked to my left, I saw the world famous Kentucky Downs. Pretty cool.

I went into the Cracker Barrell (my favorite place for road vittles) and when I came back out I spoke to my pal Guy Gilchrist (carrtoonist, Nancy, The Muppets) on the cell. He is in the process of moving to Nashville and we were going to hook up, but he was unable to be in town this week. Bummer.

I went on down to Music Row and checked in at the Best Western, where I usually stay when I come to town. I made a few more calls and spoke to another friend, the videographer Rick Broyles.
