SEC Daily Fever: Auburn Names QB Starter

Posted: Aug 17, 2009

SEC Daily Fever is the top SEC story of the day. Disagree? Let us know.

Chris Todd was recently named the starting quarterback at Auburn, and he looked the part in Saturday’s scrimmage.

Lost in all of the Gene Chizik debate, the hiring of Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator could be turn out to be one of the biggest coaching moves of the SEC offseason.

It’s no surprise that Malzahn decided to go with the better passer Todd, who battled Kodi Burns-the better runner- for the starting job in ’08. Todd will be a better fit for the pass-happy Malzahn attack, which was rated #1 in total offense both years he was at Tulsa.

Making the decision on the starter early, and no letting it go into the season, will be big for Auburn as Malzahn and Todd try to resuscitate the Tigers’ offense in ’09.
