Big 12 Daily Fever: Big Recruiting News for Mizzou

Posted: Aug 18, 2009

Big 12 Daily Fever is the top Big 12 story of the day. Disagree? Let us know.

Missouri got some huge news this week with the verbal commitment of the Show-Me State’s top prospect, offensive lineman Nick Demien.

It’s especially important for the Tigers to keep quality talent at home, and this represents the third straight class (QB Blaine Gabbert in ’08 and DL Sheldon Richardson in’09) in which the state’s top-rated recruit has signed with the Tigers.

To put this in further perspective, the top in state Missouri prospect in each year from '05-'07 signed out-of-state.

Gary Pinkel has done a quality job in building the Mizzou gridiron profile and in making his club a consistent factor in the North division.

Missouri has always been a great sports state with two NFL franchises and one of baseball's most revered franchises, the St. Louis Cardinals.  Mizzou football has had to live in the shadow of all of those teams and the other Big 12 powers from Texas and Oklahoma.

Retaining Gary Pinkel became a big story this past off season as rumors flew about him leaving for Washington, but the payoff for Tiger fans continues to come as one can see how the seeds planted by Pinkel continue to put Mizzou's brand of college football on the forefront in the Show-Me State sports scene.
