Big 12 Daily Fever: Sherman Hopes Personal Example Inspires Aggie Players

Posted: Sep 01, 2009

Big 12 Daily Fever is the top Big 12 story of the day. Disagree? Let us know.

After going 4-8 in his first season in College Station, Mike Sherman knows how hard he must work to turn things around.

It may not translate to wins and losses, but it’s a good message to the players that the head coach dropped forty pounds during the offseason. The importance of leadership is paramount for struggling teams, and every detail matters as Sherman tries to resuscitate a once-proud program from the bottom of the Big 12 South.

A soft early schedule (New Mexico, Utah State, UAB) will give the Aggies a chance to build momentum before facing former Southwest Conference rival Arkansas in Dallas at Jerry Jones’ new palace. And while the South Division is very difficult, their Big 12 schedule is softened with no Nebraska, Kansas or Missouri on the docket.

Texas A&M remains the Big 12's sleeping giant.  They have all the fundamentals to be a top 10 program annually.  Whether Mike Sherman's pro background makes him Nick Saban or Al Groh remains to be seen.

Sherman must get his team back to a Bowl game in 2009 to show the A&M fan base that he is the man for the job. Obviously, he is willing to put in the work(out).
