SEC Daily Fever: LSU Can Prove Their Top 5 Ranking Between the Hedges

Posted: Oct 01, 2009

LSU will begin a brutal three-game stretch this Saturday that will test their lofty #4 national ranking.

They barely escaped Starkville undefeated, and now the Tigers will head to Georgia before hosting Florida and Auburn later this month.  Like Ole Miss falling to South Carolina, the meat of your SEC schedule is what proves your worth in this conference.

It’s been a strange year for Les Miles’ bunch. They were outgained 478-321 in yardage at Washington, but won 31-23.  In LSU's defense, Washington proved with their win against USC that they are a much better team than they were a year ago when they were winless.

More strangeness comes from senior tailback Charles Scott who went over 100 yards rushing six times a year ago while scoring 18 touchdowns and figured to be a key weapon for LSU's offense. This year, he has not rushed for more than 63 yards in a game and has not found the end zone.

Still, however they do it, LSU has managed to stay unbeaten as they prepare for a rough October.  If the Tigers can win ‘Between the Hedges’, it will set up the SEC’s regular season game of the year the following week against Florida.

If not, the questions will begin to mount in Baton Rouge about whether LSU will challenge for the SEC West title in 2009.
