Big 12 Daily Fever: Jones, Not Bradford, Will Lead OU At Miami

The mystery is over for Oklahoma: Landry Jones will start at quarterback when the Sooners travel to Miami to meet a hungry Canes squad.

Heisman winner Sam Bradford has practiced this week but is not quite ready to return to the field. It seems like a solid decision to not push Bradford back too early in a non-conference game.

While the Sooners’ desire coming into ’09 was getting back to the BCS Championship Game, they can still achieve another important goal first in winning the Big 12. Bradford can return next week against Baylor and have a week under his belt before the Red River Rivalry.

Jones has plenty of weapons around him, plus a quality defense, to try and beat Miami this week. And who knows with the wackiness of a college football season, the Sooners could beat the Canes and still be able to get to that National Title tilt.

Having a healthy Bradford back for the entire Big 12 schedule is the most important aspect to taking care of business at home with another league title.

College football fans understand the natural transition of players who only have four years of play.  As much as the storyline coming into this season centered on Bradford trying to lead Oklahoma to a national title, it can now be about what Oklahoma will be after Bradford leaves.

Bradford may well lead the Sooners to a tremendous Big 12 season after this weekend, but if Landry Jones leads the Sooners to victory against the Hurricanes, OU fans will know their team is in good hands after Bradford leaves for the NFL
.
