SEC Daily Fever: Arkansas Has Much To Prove Against Auburn

Arkansas came into the season with the goal of at least being a factor in the SEC West, if not more. Already at 0-2 in league play, the Hogs begin a stretch this Saturday where they host Auburn, and then travel to Florida and Ole Miss. That’s a pretty daunting stretch for club that has shown the ability to offense while struggling on defense.

It will be interesting to see how the matchup of Bobby Petrino’s offense goes against Gene Chizik’s defense. Those two men were coordinators on the same Auburn staff and should be very familiar with each other. Their former boss at Auburn, Tommy Tuberville, said this week that he expects the Tigers to win by three touchdowns.

That result would be devastating to an Arkansas club that had fairly high expectations coming into the 2009 season. We definitely think the game should be closer than that, especially with a raucous crowd cheering on the Hogs in Fayetteville.

Although it might be early in Petrino's coaching career at Arkansas, this feels like a defining game for him.
