Big 12 Daily Fever: Texas Tech Has QB Decision To Make
Posted: Oct 13, 2009In ten years at Texas Tech, Mike Leach had never seen one of his starting quarterbacks miss a start because of injury.
That changed last Saturday when Steven Sheffield replaced a concussed Taylor Potts as the Red Raiders’ signal caller. What wasn’t a first was seeing a Leach QB throw seven touchdown passes in a game, as Sheffield joined Potts as the second Tech field general to do that this season.
Now Leach faces an interesting decision as he must choose between Potts and Sheffield as the Raiders travel to Lincoln to face a very tough Nebraska defense. Nebraska looks like they have turned a corner under Bo Pelini, but they must show that they can contain the always dangerous Red Raider offense.
That decision could play a big role in the Big 12 race, as Texas Tech will still battle Kansas and both Oklahoma schools after the Cornhuskers. A new, red-hot Red Raider quarterback is something that none of those contenders wants to see.
