SEC Daily Fever: Florida Squeaks By Arkansas, Drops to #2 in AP

We wrote on Friday that Florida could be in for a classic trap game against Arkansas, and that’s what it turned out to be.

The Gators rode their defense and some Arkansas miscues to a last second 23-20 win that was very reminiscent of last year’s home loss to Ole Miss. The difference this season was that Charlie Strong’s unit didn’t allow 31 points and allowed the offense to catch up. The Florida attack still has some issues without Percy Harvin, and they will need to be better than they were Saturday to repeat as SEC or Nationals Champions.

As far as Bobby Petrino’s bunch, this one will sting awhile. Missed receivers in the red zone, two missed field goals, and a couple of tough calls will leave the Hogs thinking about what could have been. While there will be frustration, Arkansas has shown over the last three weeks that they are going to be a factor in the SEC this year and for seasons to come.

Like we said last week, these are the type games that make the SEC so tough, and the Gators should be glad that they escaped this season's close call with a victory.  

There was a small cost in that Florida dropped behind Alabama in the AP.  It's clear that the writers have taken notice of the Gators' struggling ways.

However, it's SEC football - survive and advance is the only way to make it through.  Style points don't really matter as long as you win.
