Big 12 Daily Fever: K-State ascension could hurt league's image

Posted: Nov 05, 2009

Bill Snyder has returned to the sideline in Manhattan, Kansas, and the Wildcats are sitting in first place in the Big 12’s “little brother” Division. The North will be decided over the next month, most likely coming down to a K-State/Nebraska battle on November 21st. But an important rivalry game will take place this week, as the Jayhawks visit K-State and try to spoil the Wildcats’ hopes of their first North Division championship since 2003.

While K-State fans have to be thrilled to be in first place in November (something that seemed very unlikely after losing at Louisiana-Lafayette), it does not make the conference look very strong that Snyder can come right back to the Big 12 and take the North Title. No disrespect to Snyder, who engineered one of the greatest program building projects in college football history, but he did have losing seasons Manhattan in ’04 and ’05.

If the Wildcats hold on in the North, there are going to be some league fan bases (and athletic directors) very worried about their current standing in the Big 12.
