SEC Daily Fever: Ole Miss Looks To Continue Late Season Surge Against LSU

The top two teams in the conference have been pretty clear for a while, and the rematch in Atlanta is already set for Florida and Alabama. But who's next?

LSU has seeimngly been that third squad all year with their only two losses coming against the Gators and Tide. One team that could surprisingly stake their claim as next best is Ole Miss. The Rebels have won four of their last five and could potentially finish second in the West (and get a big-time Bowl) if they could upset the Tigers this weekend.

The key to Ole Miss' recent rally has been getting the ball to super-weapon Dexter McCluster. He has carried the Rebels offense lately as the stats show:

"McCluster's workload has been extremely heavy during the past three SEC games with 29 touches against Arkansas, 26 against Auburn and 29 against Tennessee. He's accounted for 780 of the team's 1,439 total yards over that span, which means he's responsible for more than 54 percent of the production."Every time I touch the ball," McCluster said, "I feel like something big is going to happen."

Houston Nutt's club will have to show they can play up to high expectations to beat LSU. The Rebs snuck up on Arkansas and Tennesee for big wins, but did not show as well in highly-anticipated games against South Carolina, Alabama and Auburn. Saturday's home contest against the Bengal Tigers will be huge for both teams as they try to claim third in the SEC pecking order for the postseason.
