Big 12 Daily Fever: McCoy Injury Overshadows Title Loss

It wasn't supposed to end like this.

Texas fans could probably deal with a loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game if they had their entire arsenal, but it just seems different after the Horns lost senior quarterback Colt McCoy for nearly the entire game to a shoulder injury. Losing the all-time winningest college football signal caller was the key factor in the game, and Texas went on to lose 37-21.

The Longhorns seemed to lose their emotion and confidence in the first half with their leader gone. They did a good job of rallying in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome a 24-6 halftime deficit.

Of course, it would have only been 17-6 if it were not for Mack Brown’s colossal blunder that cost the Longhorns a very important seven points at the end of the half. His decision to have freshman signal caller Garrett Gilbert (who has a very promising future) try an ill-advised shovel pass-instead of letting the clock run out- will be a mistake that Texas fans will not forget for a long time.

Unfortunately, the story of this Title Game is the heart-wrenching absence of Colt McCoy. Texas fans feel like they would have been right there to win it with their senior leader, and fans across America almost feel cheated of not getting to see a classic contest.
