I came across this festival article, and Steve Earle always reminds me of Townes Van Zandt. I met Townes a couple of times and he vaguely reminded me of filmmaker Sam Peckinpah. Since Peckinpah filmed The Getaway, I always eventually think of Oklahoma-born writer Jim Thompson. A long line of heroes…

Cut from the same cloth are guys like Harry Crews, Sam Shepard, Paul Hemphill and Cormac McCarthy. Sometimes to revisit their work and catch a scent of their story reaffirms the task at hand.
