Molly Hatchet To Perform at Somer Thompson Candle Light Vigil

Diena Thompson of Jacksonville, Florida found herself living every parent's worst nightmare when her 7-year-old daughter went missing on October 19, 2009. Two days later, in a Georgia landfill, Somer's body was discovered.

The community felt an immediate call to action. Fundraisers were coordinated to aide Diena and her family and everyone asked the question... Why...Why ? Diena needed a platform as the voice of Somer, and The Somer Thompson Foundation was formed.

This Tuesday marks the one year anniversary of this tragedy, and a special candle light vigil and concert is being held featuring Molly Hatchet, who wrote and performed a song in memory of Somer on their latest concept album Justice. The song will be made available on the upcoming GRITZ Stone Ground & Southern Compilation #5, and can be heard on The Somer Thompson Foundation website.

"....it is hard to believe it has been one year since the abduction of Somer and being so close to the family and Diena I can tell you first hand that the pain and suffering they have had to endure is beyond words,” Molly Hatchet guitarist Bobby Ingram told GRITZ. “As Molly Hatchet stands by the promise and commitment made to them and as time goes on we are even more dedicated to helping seek justice for Somer - Justice for all children and continue to bring awareness to this unnecessary act towards our loved ones. With the Somer Thompson Foundation now in place it serves as a platform to educate not only children but parents to evils that are around us and on the foundation website tools listed to help suffering families of this similar crime and help strengthen laws that will keep our children safer... God Bless everyone that has helped seek justice for Somer.”

A non-profit Foundation created to help the families of victims of child abduction resulting in death. We experianced first hand that basic needs had to be met while dealing with the tragedy of Somer's abduction and brutal murder. Our goal is to provide education in the form of awareness and prevention to both parents and children, help to victims families' emotionally and to provide hope in the darkest days with financial grants being awarded by the Foundation that meet the criteria stated in the bylaws of the 501(c)(3) corporation.
