I always loved Leon Russell’s songs. The Oklahoma native played with Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Phil Spector, Gram Parsons, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Delaney & Bonnie, Carl Radle, J.J. Cale, Jim Gordon, Jesse Ed Davis, David Hood, Roger Hawkins, Joe Cocker, Bruce Hornsby, Glen Campbell, Dave Mason, Willie Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others. Russell recently recorded an album with Elton John—The Union--that was produced by T-Bone Burnett. The record is set to hit the streets Tuesday, October 19.

This New York Times article provides insight to the two distinct careers of Elton John and Leon Russell. Elton John met Russell in 1970. At the time, Leon Russell stood as one of the biggest names in music. As it turned out, Elton John was ascending in his career and would go on to sell 250 million albums.

Elton John called Leon at his home near Nashville and asked if he wanted to make a record together. Elton John reveals he always held Russell in high regard as a musician. Special guests on The Union include Neil Young, Brian Wilson, Booker T, Bono and Don Was. It's good to see the Master of Space & Time back in the cosmic spotlight…
