Black Joe Louis & The Honeybears Perform At SXSW

The Austin, Texas, soul/blues band Black Joe Louis & The Honeybears formed in 2007. Heavily influenced by Howlin’ Wolf and James Brown, the group even opened for the legendary Little Richard. After gaining local acclaim through perseverance the group now begins to command a larger audience.

Black Joe Louis & The Honeybears just released their third studio album—Scandalous-- on Lost Highway Records. It’s a tight and lowdown collection of songs. Last week at South by Southwest, the band hosted a release party for Scandalous.

Yesterday, Black Joe Louis & The Honeybears invited the Dallas gospel quintet, The Relatives, onstage during their performance. The Relatives disbanded in 1980 until they released an album of 30-year-old material in 2009. These two groups deserve attention of anyone who still loves authentic blues and soul music.
