2011 John Coltrane Birthday Tribute

Today is the birthday of jazz legend John Coltrane. Born in Hamlet, North Carolina on September 23, 1926, Coltrane soon moved to Philadelphia, and eventually to New York City. Coltrane met another North Carolina native in New York--Thelonious Monk. Eventually Monk and Coltrane recorded together on many sessions.
Coltrane died at 40 on July 17, 1967. Last night I listened to an interview with Frank Kofski from August 18, 1966. Without question, John "Trane" Coltrane ranks as one of America's greatest musicians.
