Southern writers Cormac McCarthy and Richard Ford are among finalists named for the 33rd annual National Book Award. Tennessee born Cormac McCarthy is nominated for his latest novel, The Road, a heart-rending story between a father and his young son in a post apocalyptic America. McCarthy's other books include Cities of the Plain, No Country For Old Men, The Crossing, Blood Meridian, Suttree, Outer Dark, Child of God, The Orchard Keeper, and All the Pretty Horses which won the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Award. Mississippi native Richard Ford-a Guggenheim fellow (1977-78), a two-time National Endowment For the Arts fellow, and winner of the PEN/Faulkner citation for The Sportswriter, is nominated for his latest novel The Lay of the Land.
In other Swampland news, we continue to update our Interviews & Features archives. New features, like food, film, CD reviews, live reviews, and literature are on the way and will be in place very soon. In the next two weeks, I look forward to interviewing the great southern writer Paul Hemphill, Allman Brothers Tour Mystic Kirk West, Music Maker Relief Foundation President Tim Duffy, and Country music legend Charlie Louvin.
I'd advise all sports nuts to checkout the Swampland Media Sports Section during this intense time of Playoffs and an upcoming Super Bowl fever...Until later...Be Particular...
