Stax Records songwriter Sir Mack Rice penned "Mustang Sally" (Wilson Pickett), "Respect Yourself" (Staple Singers), "Cheaper To Keep Her" (Johnny Taylor), and "Cadillac Assembly Line" for Albert King. Sir Mack survives as one of the last great singer/songwriters from the old Stax days, and he continues to write songs. With Concord Music Group releasing Stax's 50-year celebration CDs, Sir Mack Rice's songs are exposed as divine roots to sweet soul music. James Calemine
