George McCorkle of the original Marshall Tucker Band died this morning, Friday, June 29th at 11:30 in a Nashville Hospital. He was 60.
He had entered the hospital two weeks ago following an accident, and examination revealed terminal cancer.
George was a founding member of the Spartanburg, SC based group The Marshall Tucker Band, and penned one of the band's biggest hits, "Fire On The Mountain."
Survivors include his wife, Vivienne Davies McCorkle; a son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Beebe McCorkle of Pauline; two stepsons, Alex and Kevin; one stepdaughter, Kelsey; and two brothers, Chuck McCorkle of Lexington, SC, and Tony McCorkle of Florida.

Just plain sad! I'm really bummed out by this news, all I can say is that he brought much love and happiness to the world through his music. And I hope that his family can make it through this trying time. "And when I die let me die With a dream in my mind a smile on my face and no trouble behind....."
