Blues Great Memphis Minnie Honored
9/28/07

In Walls, Mississippi, the female guitarist and songwriter Memphis Minnie was honored with a Blues Trail marker yesterday at her gravesite at the Hope Missionary Baptist Church--two miles south of Memphis, Tennessee.
In 1929 Memphis Minnie recorded "When The Levee Breaks", later covered by Led Zeppelin on their fourth album. Memphis Minnie and Bessie Smith remain the only two female performers inducted into The Blues Foundation Hall of Fame. Memphis Minnie died in 1973.
