There’s really only one new movie this week worth mentioning, and that is the latest from Quentin Tarantino, a World War II film that takes place during the beginning of the German occupation of France. The film is called Inglorious Bastards, and as with all Tarantino movies, there’s a mixture of serious drama and dark comedy. It’s the director’s signature style.
Brad Pitt stars as Lieutenant Aldo Raine, who organizes a group of Jewish American soldiers with a singular mission - “killin’ Nazis.”
Along the way we meet a young Jewish French girl (Mélanie Laurent as Shosanna Dreyfus) whose entire family is massacred by a famed Jew killer. Shosanna girl shows up later as the owner of a cinema that is set to host Nazi leaders, including Hitler himself, for a German war film premier. She plots her revenge, planning to lock everyone in and burn the theater to the ground. That’s one storyline. There are a few.
Pitt is far and away the star of the film with his over the top Tennessee mountain accent, and it is downright hilarious when he poses as an Italian escort for a famous German actress turned double agent. You’ve never heard an I-Talian accent like his!
The movie is filled with over the top humor, violence and all the elements that made Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill so much fun. Not for everyone, but as for the Buffalo, I give it five stars.
Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.
