Gregg Allman’s Low Country Blues

On January 18, Gregg Allman’s latest studio recording—Low Country Blues—hits the streets. Produced by T-Bone Burnett, Low Country Blues contains mostly traditional blues covers. The songs sounds like the original sonic vision Gregg and his late brother Duane originally pursued even before they formed the Allman Brothers Band.

These 12 stripped down tunes prove Allman still ranks as one of America’s most soulful singers.

Alongside Allman on piano, Dennis Couch played only an acoustic bass on each song. Jay Bellerose hit drums with calfskin heads to retain a classic ‘Chess Records’ sound. Doyle Bramhall II delivers emotive guitar playing that really serves as the backbone to most of these tracks. Dr. John even makes an appearance...
