American VI Out Feb. 26

Johnny Cash’s final studio album—American VI: Ain’t No Grave—will be released February 26 to coincide with what would be Cash’s 78th birthday. Once again, Rick Rubin (Tom Petty, Black Crowes) produced Cash’s final studio work, which was recorded after Cash’s 2002 disc, American IV: The Man Comes Around. Cash died in September of 2003.

The first posthumous Cash release was the 2006 American V: A Hundred Highways. Some of the songs Cash recorded on his final session were tunes written by Kris Kristofferson, Bob Nolan and Tom Paxton. Last sounds from The Man In Black. And this photo tells its own story...

More tomorrow,
