Mystery And Manners Interview with Black Crowes Keyboardist
8/13/08

I'd like to direct your attention to my interview with The Black Crowes' keyboardist, Adam MacDougall. It's a long interview, but it provides an indelible insight into his music path which led to him play with talented musicians such as Gary Louris, Jonathan Wilson and The Black Crowes. He's a New Yorker (it's okay, the Crowes longtime keyboardist Ed Hawrsch was from Detroit) and being thrown into The Atlanta-born Black Crowes' extensive catalogue that consists of a wide variety of old Delta blues, traditional country, soul, reggae, R & B, and their own original material that blends into this old cosmic rock and roll...he said he's beyond enjoying playing this music.

Adam proved an interesting conversationalist and in possession of a keen sense of humor. He touched on a wide range of musical topics...from his love of Thelonious Monk to Funkadelic (hence the title of the interview) onward towards his new adventure to delve into southern music. So, this leads to the next step in the Crowes saga of a few upcoming fall shows I'll attend. The band is in fine form behind their new album Warpaint. The shows as of late prove significant in the Crowes overview. Luther Dickinson's prolific blues-based style guitar playing and MacDougall's funk-laden keys propels The Black Crowes in another triumphant era of their career. As they move on down the line they remain evergreen...More Crowes news soon...
