Blues man John Hammond has recorded some fine albums during his long and varied career, including the Muscle Shoals inspired Southern Fried, but the two included on this CD are two of his very best.

Source Point, produced by Hammond himself back in 1971, features eleven blues standards by folks like Muddy Waters, Slim Harpo, Little Walter and Howlin’ Wolf. The band featured Charles Otis on drums and Billy Nichols on bass, creating a blues power trio with Hammond on guitar.

I’m Satisfied was produced by none other than Delaney Bramlett in 1972, and is considered by many to be Hammond's crowning jewel. Hammond performs several of Bramlett’s compositions, including the title track, along with “Outside Your Door,” “If You Ever Need a Man,” and “I’m Gonna Leave.” There’s a nice cover of Robert Johnson’s “From Four Until Late” and a killer rendition of “Farther Up The Road.” The Delaney signature is all over the album, giving it a real Southern flare.

As a special bonus, Raven has included two tracks from the Triumvirate album of 1973, featuring Hammond, Mike Bloomfield and Dr. John. (A true classic LP.) Included are “Rock Me Baby” and Little Walter’s “Last Night.”

Hammond’s skills as a deep blues singer cannot be denied. He continues to record and perform to this very day, and still sounds as powerful as ever. 75 minutes of stellar music from a real master.
