(Stax)

For their second album back in 1969, Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett found their true “home” among the black musicians at Stax Records.

Backed by Booker T. and the MG’s and an array of other top flight players, these pioneers of roots music delivered a funky, soulful record that more than stands the test of time, from the Hayes/Porter tune “My Baby Specializes,” to “Just Plain Beautiful,” to Bonnie’s take on the Big Brother & The Holding Company hit “Piece of My Heart,” originally sung by Bonnie’s friend Janis Joplin. D & B add keys and horns for a more soul filled Memphis vibe.

With a cast of players that includes Isaac Hayes, Steve Cropper, Donald “Duck" Dunn (who co-produced the record along with Don Nix), Leon Russell, Carl Radle and many other Soul stars, Delaney and Bonnie laid down some sheer magic. “We Can Love” is a smooth groove if ever there was one.

With this reissue, we ar treated to half-a-dozen bonus tracks recorded during the Home sessions including another D&B original “A Long Road Ahead,” and a minor radio hit, “Get Ourselves Together.”

An epic re-issue full of real rock-n-roll soul.
