There's Nothing Some Skynyrd Can't Cure

Hi Gang. It's been some kind of day. It all began at 345 AM when I got up and drove from Greenville to Charlotte, NC to put my wife on a plane to Hawaii, where she will be spending the next month with our daughter Hannah, whose baby is due at any moment now. (Yes, the first pictures will be posted rightb here. You kidding me?)

After driving through a torrential downpour of rain all the way up, in the dark, I got to the terminal, parked in front just long enough to help Jill with her bags- ten minutes max. I came back to leave and had two tickets totalling $75 on my window. One for leaving my car in front of the door in this downpour of rain, and the other for leaving keys in the ignition. Talk about your rainy day blues.

Two miles down I-85, I get pulled by Charlotte's finest. An 18-wheeler had come off of a ramp and nearly creamed me, so I jerked the Honda into the other lane without signaling. I tried to explain that to the officer as he handed me my third ticket, this one for $85. At least Jill was safe and on her way. That's all that really mattered to me.

This afternoon I called up my sweet friend JoJo Billingsley White to tell her they used some of my interview with her in the Guitar Legends magazine article on Skynyrd. It is always a joy to talk with JoJo. She really is one of my sweetest, dearest friiends. After talking with her, the tickets didn't even bother me anymore. She's inspirational that way.

I told her a story I thought I had told her before, but must not have about being backstage here in Greenville the night of the final concert by Skynyrd. I had met everyone, and I remember telling Allen Collins that I wished JoJo was at the show. He smiled and said "Not half as much as I do." I think it made her smile.

I told Jo I was going to pull out my copy of Free Bird: The Movie and watch it again over the weekend. Then about an hour ago I followed a link from my buddy Sonny Edwards to a new Artimus Pyle page on MySpace, where I found this great video of my friend Artimus being interviewed recently by Howard Stern. I really enjoyed it and thought y'all might as well. Now, where did I put that Free Bird DVD? See you tomorrow.

Glad your day got better. I watched some of "Freebird" the Movie this weekend myself. Great all the way around with just an epic and beautifully shot version of Freebird. I get chills when you hear the announcer say afterwards "One of the great ones...Lynyrd Skynyrd" and then it pans to footage of the plane. I wish I could've seen them back then. Awesome band.
