ACC Daily Fever: All Eyes on Raleigh Tonight

Posted: Sep 03, 2009

ACC Daily Fever is the top ACC story of the day. Disagree? Let us know.

What an opportunity tonight's game presents for North Carolina State.

As third-year coach Tom O’Brien looks to build the Wolfpack program, the eyes of the football nation will be on Carter-Finley Stadium in the college opener for 2009. State will have a chance to get revenge for last year’s loss, beat an SEC opponent, and get huge recruiting exposure all in one night.

It will also be an opportunity for the nation to become familiar with Wolfpack quarterback Russell Wilson, who became the first freshman in league history to earn first-team All-ACC honors as a quarterback a year ago.

When Wilson was healthy (17 TDs/1 INT), NC State was a completely different team in’08.If he can carry that success forward, the Wolfpack will move up the league ladder quickly.

Last season, South Carolina's big win over State, combined with Alabama's destruction of Clemson later that weekend in Atlanta, had fans taking note of the apparent disparities between SEC and ACC football.

A Wolfpack win tonight can start the ACC's 2009 season with a much different tone - something the conference desperately wants and needs.
